As we start this New Year we remind ourselves that our strong desire at ICB is to 'seek together to learn what it means to be wholehearted followers of Jesus'. In pursuit of this desire we turn our attention to our habits of prayer. Rooted in Matthew 6:5-13, we take time in this 4 week series to contemplate Scripture and share ideas, resources and tools to help each of us develop lives that are characterized and informed by prayer.
Lesson 4 invites us to observe the final 3 requests given by Jesus in His model prayer - 'Give us today our daily bread'; 'forgive us our debts'; and 'lead us not into temptation'. By inviting us to offer these requests to God, Jesus is anticipating that we will have struggles in this life with 1) daily necessities; 2) relationships; 3) temptation to sin. These final, beautiful requests then may be seen as prayer for wholeness of life! Listen below or right click here to download the file

Lesson 3 invites us to consider what was behind Jesus' instruction to use the words, 'your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven'. Two applications seem to be most likely - first, we may see it as an expression of future (certain) hope. The day IS coming when Jesus will return and the Kingdom will be realized in the fullest sense (Rev 21, 22). Secondly, we may view these words as an expression of submission to Jesus, inviting the values of His kingdom to be the values that take root in our lives and result in our lives being the 'salt of the earth' and the 'light of the world' (Matt 5). May it be! Lesson 2 calls our attention to Praise God for his Holiness - He is set apart; He has NO equal; He is unsurpassed and unsurpassable! While Lesson 1 called us to know who we are and whose we are, Lesson 2 invites us to reflect on who God is! May we respond with Praise! Lesson 1 leads us to the simple but profound words at the beginning of 'the Lord's Prayer' - Our Father. In these words we find faith to believe who we are and whose we are!
