We conclude our study series on spiritual disciplines with a consideration of the idea of prayer. Many books have been written on this subject! Down through the centuries, followers of Jesus have wrestled with how to understand the idea of prayer and put it into practice. Today we hope to expand our view of prayer and see it as the substance of our relationship with our loving Father. We view the prayer the Jesus taught us to pray as an example or pattern and then also briefly examine some of the practices of prayer which others have found helpful. May we be known as people of prayer!

The letter 'I' in worship brings us to the idea of us 'incarnating the love of Jesus'. We note today that this idea is rooted in the reality of the Incarnation of Jesus as described in John 1:14 - 'the Word became flesh'. Surprising, Jesus, toward the end of his earthly life, says to his followers - 'As the Father sent me into the world, so (in the same way) I am sending you!'. We reflect on the meaning of this today and see an example in the lives of Peter and John in Acts 3-4.
